The Lebanon Labor Market Observatory (LMO) serves as a national platform providing crucial labor market information that is accessible, localized, and timely. As the centerpiece of the Haretna project, it supports inclusive, community-driven development initiatives throughout Lebanon.
Funded by AFD and DANIDA, this multi-partner initiative is implemented by a consortium led by the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), working alongside COSV, the Tripoli Entrepreneurs Club (TEC), and the Lebanese Democratic Women's Gathering (RDFL).
Through TEC's extensive local engagement in key urban areas including Hayy Terab (Tripoli), Hayy Tamlis (Beirut), and Hayy Taamir (Saida), the LMO collects and organizes vital data on employment trends, skills gaps, and economic conditions.
Our Impact
Community Transformation
Empowering neighborhoods through informed economic development
Organizational Coordination
Enabling better planning and collaboration among development actors
Data-Driven Decisions
Providing localized insights for targeted interventions
The Lebanon Labor Market Observatory transforms how organizations understand local economic challenges. By gathering neighborhood-level data, we enable precise interventions that address specific community needs rather than applying one-size-fits-all approaches. This granular understanding helps development partners design programs that truly respond to the unique circumstances of each area, ultimately leading to more sustainable economic opportunities for youth and marginalized populations.
Insights Pillar
Employment Trends
Neighborhood and sector-level analysis of job markets across targeted Lebanese communities
Market Challenges
Comprehensive summaries of ongoing labor challenges and economic shifts affecting workers
Collaborative Reports
Research publications developed in partnership with local stakeholders to ensure relevance
Our Insights pillar delivers labor market observations firmly rooted in community realities. Unlike national statistics that often miss neighborhood-level nuances, our data captures the lived experiences of job seekers and employers in specific urban areas. These insights reveal patterns in informal employment, sector-specific challenges, and emerging opportunities that might otherwise remain invisible in broader economic analyses.
Jobs Pillar
Verified Employer Listings
All job vacancies are shared by verified employers who have been vetted to ensure legitimacy and fair employment practices
Customized Search Options
Browse positions by sector, neighborhood location, required skill level, or job type to quickly find relevant opportunities
The Jobs pillar serves as a bridge between local talents and employers seeking skilled workers. Unlike mainstream job platforms that focus primarily on corporate positions, our listings include neighborhood-based opportunities across formal and informal sectors. This approach helps connect job seekers with nearby work options that might otherwise be advertised only through word-of-mouth networks.
Opportunities Pillar
Skills Development
Training sessions and workshops to build marketable competencies
Work Experience
Internships and apprenticeships providing hands-on learning
Entrepreneurship
Grants, mentoring, and startup support initiatives
Networking
Community events connecting talents with industry leaders
Our Opportunities pillar showcases programs that enhance skills and labor market participation. We curate offerings from various organizations and present them in an accessible format, making it easier for community members to discover relevant resources. This section particularly emphasizes opportunities for marginalized groups, including women, refugees, and youth from underserved neighborhoods.
Resources Pillar
Policy Frameworks
Access to national and local labor strategies, legal frameworks, and official guidance documents that shape the employment landscape in Lebanon
Implementation Tools
Practical toolkits, manuals, and knowledge products developed by field practitioners to support effective program design and execution
Decision Support
Evidence-based resources that enable informed planning, helping organizations allocate resources where they can have the greatest impact
Our Resources pillar provides a carefully curated collection of materials supporting informed action in Lebanon's labor market. These documents help organizations understand regulatory frameworks, adopt proven methodologies, and implement evidence-based approaches. By centralizing these resources, we reduce duplication of effort and promote the adoption of best practices across the development sector.
